If you are a new to Sugar & Hive Beauty Bar and have some questions, we are here to help you. We have addressed a couple of commonly asked questions here. If you can't find what you are looking for please give us a call. We look forward to seeing you very soon!
When should I arrive?
We suggest you arrive 10-15 minutes prior to your service to allow time for a consultation with your skin therapist and 5 minutes prior to all airbrush tan and waxing appointments.
What should I wear?
We are a open concept beauty bar so you will be fully clothed unless you are having a service that involves the neck down. We have wraps and robes and we also have private rooms. Of course we offer all of our body waxing & sugaring services in private rooms. We suggest for neck & décolleté treatments that you use a wrap and a robe. Our skin therapists are trained to make you feel comfortable.
Do I have to talk during my appointment?
No, not at all but if you want to we will listen.
I want to begin a skin care routine, what do I do?
We are so happy you are investing in your skin. It is your largest organ. Come in for a consultation and we will figure out the best care for your skin. We believe that healthy, glowing skin requires consistency and professional care.
What are the general guidelines with tipping?
Great question. Our estheticians work off of commission and gratuity and tipping is always welcome. A general percentage is anywhere between 15-25%. Thank you for checking.
Do you offer lash extensions?
We do not offer lash extensions. We do know some incredible lash artists we can refer you to.
What is a lash lift?
A lash lift is like a perm for your eye lashes. It is AMAZING and it is one of our top services. It lasts the entire lash growth cycle. It is great when paired with a tint!
What if I have sensitive eyes or have had a prior reaction to extensions?
Call the beauty bar or schedule a consultation to discuss your sensitivities and prior reactions. This may or may not be the treatment for you.
What is a brow design?
This is the royal brow treatment. It consists of brow mapping for the perfect shape, waxing/sugaring, tweezing, a tint, a mask if needed to help reduce swelling and redness, and finally a brow touch-up with our favorite brow makeup. You will be brow-ready for anything Sugar! This appointment is a bit longer than a typical maintenance appointment so plan accordingly.
What is microblading?
It is semi-permanent tattooing of the eye brows. It lasts between 18-36 months and requires routine touch-ups as needed to keep the color fresh. Our talented brow artist will work with you to achieve the brows of your dreams. Multiple appointments are required and a lot of patience. The healing period is rough but nothing you can't handle.
How often should I get facials?
We believe that healthy, glowing skin requires consistency. We recommend a monthly facial for the best results.
How do I determine which facial to pick?
This is easy, just schedule a consultation and we will map out a treatment plan for you. We have something for all skin types and skin concerns as well as seasons.
What products do you use?
We use Skinceuticals, Sorella Apothecary, and Oribe Beauty. We use only the very best products that produce results. If you want to know more about our skincare lines we are happy to answer any questions.
What types of treatments do you offer?
Visit our services page and you will see the long list of offerings.
Is there downtime with any of your services?
All of our services are non-invasive. There is not downtime with any of our services except our more aggressive peels that will leave you more red than normal and will cause the skin to slough off and peel. This is normal. The spa facials, the Hydrafacial, lashes, brows, tanning...there is not downtime.
What do I need to know and do before and after my service?
Make sure to shower and exfoliate with a mild body polish for the best results. Do not wear deodorant or lotion. If you do we have cleansing cloths, no worries.
What do I use to exfoliate?
We suggest using a non-abrasive body policy. We sell these amazing sugar cube scrubs that smell delightful and work perfectly. If you use an exfoliator that is more
What do I wear?
Wear loose, dark clothing and open-toed shoes such as flip-flops. We do not recommend wearing anything tight. Also, if you have lighter clothing the bronzer will get on your clothing. The good news is that it washes out. Yay.
When can I shower?
This depends on the airbrush tanning service you choose. For the express service you can shower an hour after your appointment. For the regular session we recommend showering 8 or more hours later but no more than 12.
How long will my airbrush tan last?
It will last between 5-7 days.
Am I able to swim?
We do not suggest jumping in to the pool or the ocean because the chemicals and saltwater will cause your tan to become spotty and fade. It is not a great look.
How can I make my tan last?
We recommend the maintenance package by Norvell. You can also keep your skin hydrated and follow our guidelines above.
Is airbrush tanning safe if I am pregnant?
We always recommend checking with your doctor. The solutions we use are non-toxic, paraben-free, gluten-free, sulfate-free, nut allergen-free, propylene glycol-free, phthalates-free, and synthetic fragrance-free. Our room is well ventilated but we like to take every precaution possible so just ask your physician.
Waxing & Sugaring Appointments
Does it hurt?
The first time more than any other time. Why? Because if you wax & sugar regularly, you are removing less hair each time. We use several types of waxes and our waxes are very gentle.
Will my hair grow back thicker or darker?
The short and only answer is no. Hormones impact hair growth, not waxing or sugaring.
How long does the hair have to be?
A minimum of 3 weeks and 1/4 inches long. If it is any longer it will be more painful. We suggest at least 3 appointments before you achieve the pure smoothness because hair grows at different stages and we have a ton of hair follicles.
What is the difference between waxing & sugaring?
Both are types of hair removal methods. We love both. They both work well. Sugaring is an ancient method of hair removal that uses sugar, lemons, and water to form a paste. It is known to be more suitable for sensitive skin. It is also known to be more hygienic. However, you will not find double dipping here and we take cleanliness very serious. We use luxury wax products that are carried in higher-end spas such as the Ritz Carlton and Four Seasons. We suggest trying waxing and sugaring and determining which you prefer.
How do the packages work?
Great question. All packages must be purchased in advance. If you purchase 3 or more services we offer a 10% discount and with 6 or more we offer a 15% discount. You can package any of our services.
What type of membership plans do you offer?
We are so glad you asked. We believe that consistency is key to great skin. Visit our membership page for more details.
See you soon Sugar!
